Description:
This workshop series is an invitation to step out of the studio or home and into direct observation—where light, atmosphere, and environment shape the way you paint.
Paint outdoors. Slow down. Learn to see.
Instructor:
Lucy Cui is an illustrator and educator with a strong foundation in both traditional and digital art. A graduate of ArtCenter College of Design, she brings a thoughtful, design-driven approach to her creative practice. Her work spans illustration and fine art, with a focus on expressive mark-making and careful observation.
Alongside her professional work, Lucy has extensive teaching experience across oil painting, digital design, and life drawing in charcoal. She is passionate about helping students build both technical skills and creative confidence, encouraging an open, exploratory approach to making art.
Lucy also has a deep love for plein air painting, often working outdoors to capture light, atmosphere, and the immediacy of a scene. This practice continues to inform her teaching, where she emphasizes observation, presence, and a connection to the surrounding environment.
Location: Our sessions take place at locations throughout the South Bay. The exact location will be determined and shared as the event gets closer. Please note that some locations may require paid parking, depending on the site and time of day.
